Villains written into dark fiction need not be evil all of the time. On occasions, a writer can give them a holiday and slip the reader a gift in the form of a redemptive trait. Readers love hope. No one is truly evil. We all believe that we can be better than who we are.

Listen as a ferocious thunderstorm threatens to take the lives of five people. Just as a home is destroyed by wind, rain and hail, a hero rises from within the rubble. It’s an amazing event to read and to listen to.
Darkness Awakes includes many storms. Some are seen while others are felt. Each time the two of them meet, there’s a murder. Police recognize the commonality of the weather event and each murder but there are no other clues as to who might be the perpetrator. It’s a mystery but the greater mystery is why. The answer is deeply unsettling. It’s a crime could have been committed by anyone.

“Forman’s writing style is artful, with the protagonist Mitchell’s warped thought processes masterfully exposed. The author has a powerful and vivid command of language and his word pictures are stark and disturbingly real.”– Linda J Bettenay, author of ‘Secrets Mothers Keep’ and ‘Wishes For Starlight’.
